Frequently asked questions
Is UIX Protocol really free?+
Yes. UIX Protocol is Apache 2.0 licensed open source software. The core protocol, all code generators, Canvas editor, VS Code extension, DevTools CLI, QA engine, and AI tools are all free — no feature gating, no usage limits.
What will the Pro tier include?+
Pro adds cloud-hosted document sync, team workspaces, CI/CD pipeline integrations, version history, a private schema registry, and an analytics dashboard. The protocol itself will always be free.
Can I use UIX in commercial products?+
Absolutely. Apache 2.0 allows commercial use, modification, and distribution. No attribution required in your product UI.
How does UIX Canvas relate to Figma?+
UIX Canvas is the primary design surface — it reads and writes UIXDocuments natively. A Figma plugin is also available as a bridge for teams that want to import from or export to Figma. Canvas is the recommended workflow.
How is this different from Storybook or Plasmic?+
UIX is a protocol, not a tool. Storybook documents existing components. Plasmic generates code from drag-and-drop. UIX is the source of truth — a universal schema that generates code, validates design, drives AI, and syncs across the entire pipeline.
When will Pro be available?+
Pro is planned for launch in 2026. Sign up for early access on the GitHub repo. Early adopters will get extended trial access.
UIX Protocol is open source software licensed under Apache 2.0.
